In our last two blogs, we talked about what you should and shouldn’t do when waiting on a tow truck to pull you in for transmission repair. There are a couple of more do’s and don’ts that you should consider so that you are safe while waiting for the tow truck to arrive. From not trusting strangers to getting your car as far out of traffic as possible, following the aforementioned tips may save your life. With that in mind, read on below for a few more of the do’s and don’ts to follow when waiting on a tow truck.

DO Stay Where You are Safest

If you break down on the interstate and feel that you are safer inside of your car, stay there. Make sure to keep your seat belt on and your doors locked until the tow truck arrives. Once the tow truck driver arrives, ask for ID before you get out of the car. If you feel it is safe to get out of the car, then don’t get in the way of oncoming traffic and stay as far off the road as you can while you wait.

DON’T get out of the Car Until You are Out of Traffic

Never exit your car until you are safely out of traffic. You don’t want to get out and try to dodge traffic to get to the side of the road. If you can’t get your car out of harm’s way, then stay in the car. Don’t even get out to pop the hood or check the damage to the transmission. Stay where you are, until the tow truck arrives. It’s better to be safe and stay put than get out and be hit by oncoming motorists.
