What’s with the “e” in 4L60E?

The 4L60E Transmission has an “e” at the end of its name because GM wanted to use a method that could easily tell automatic and “electronic” transmissions apart from earlier models. (The 4L60E Transmission is a newer and more updated version from the Turbo-Hydramatic 700R4 transmission from 1982.)
